Integrating Innovation and Technology in the Built Environment Higher Education: A Student Perception Survey

The built environment is undergoing rapid transformations driven by advancements in technology and innovation. From smart cities and sustainable construction practices to digital twins and AI-driven design, the future of the built environment hinges on the integration of cutting-edge technologies. Despite these advancements, there remains a gap in higher education curricula that adequately prepares students for these emerging trends. This study aims to bridge this gap by capturing the perceptions, awareness, and expectations of students regarding the introduction of a module on innovation and technology in built environment programs.

The primary objective of this study is to survey university students enrolled in built environment programs across several European countries, including France, Italy, and the UK. The survey will explore the following aspects:

A structured survey will be administered to a sample size of approximately 500 university students across various built environment disciplines such as architecture, civil engineering, urban planning, and construction management. The survey will be distributed electronically, ensuring a broad reach and diverse respondent pool. Questions will be designed to elicit both quantitative and qualitative responses, providing a comprehensive understanding of student perceptions.

The results of this survey are expected to offer valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers. By understanding student perceptions, educators can tailor their programs to better align with industry trends and student interests. The findings will also provide a basis for developing targeted modules that incorporate the latest technological advancements, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern built environment.
